Day 1: Hunting for the Mines
Friday Sep 19 I had first heard of this trail that supposedly led to an abandoned mine at a jobsite in Butte county. I was making small talk with a construction worker when mentioned some things he liked to do, the topic of hiking, as well as urbex, short for urban exploring was brought up. He spoke about some trails that might lead to an abandoned mine shaft called Dix Mine . I recruited 2 friends and we did some research together, we quickly found the location, but the safety of it was kind of suspect. We looked into it some more and figured we had seen enough. We got our gear together, taking inventory of everything we'd need, headlights, helmets, long sleeves and pants, water, and food. My truck was packed, we loaded up and got on the road. The trail head was about 15 miles down highway 32 towards Paradise. The drive through the country was beautiful, we went though the prairie and later into the forest.
