Trailblazing in the Truck

We had been planning our trip to Butte Creek for a while, so even though the weather had cooled down on Saturday we decided we still needed to go and check out a river a friend of mine recommended.

I woke up Saturday morning and texted a group of my friends to get their stuff together and come down to my dorm. We got a few bags together and packed a football, hackey sack, and a soccer ball. We decided we would end up getting hungry so a stop was made at Walmart for snacks and some drinks.

The river was set off a few miles from the 32 freeway, however we needed two cars to take everyone to the location. The problem was, I was the only one with a car that could handle the rough roads getting down to the river, so we decided to take two cars but leave the other one once the road got too gnarly, after that the other three guys would hop in my truck bed and ride the rest of the way there.

We drove down the rest of the way with my truck fully loaded, with everyone singing along to our Spotify playlist. We finally came down a long, steep hill and the bridge that crossed over the river came into view. I parked the truck on the side of the hill and everyone hopped out. That was when the short hike started to climb down the rocks to the riverbank. The rocks were huge and it felt like rock climbing as we descended the boulders going down. We found a perfect spot to make camp and set all our stuff down to hangout for the day.

The river was moving pretty fast and was freezing since it was all coming from the mountains. We found some fun rocks to jump off and had some fun for a couple hours just hanging out in nature. I had really wish I brought my pole since thee was a lot fish activity, trout jumping and swimming up and down the river. We were there from 12 o'clock to sunset, after that the temperature started to drop and we figured it was time to head out.

The trek back up the boulders started which was quite a bit harder as we were tired and hungry since we had run out of the snacks we had brought. Once we made it up we got back to my truck and it felt like we were back in civilization. That's when we climbed the hill to leave and to come back to Chico.

This trip helped me realize that even smaller, impulsive activities can lead to some really good memories that cant be made anywhere else. Life is short and its important to make everyday fun and memorable.
